Clay Recieves $2M for Road to Future Industrial Park Directly Adjacent to First Coast Expressway

This week Florida Gov. Rick Scott announced $16 million for projects meant to aid cities with job growth. Of that, Clay County is getting $2.06 million to build a road. Clay’s is one of six projects winning the final awards from an $85 million Florida Job Growth Grant Fund, which was divvied out all year.Clay County Commission Chair Gavin Rollins said the project will help build a roadway called Atlantis Drive, which will be near the under-construction First Coast Expressway, which will start at I-10 in Duval, travel through Clay and end at I-95 in St. Johns County. The new Atlantis Drive will extend east from Trail Ridge Road.

Final Phase of First Coast Expressway is Now Fully Funded

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. – Today, Governor Rick Scott announced $763 million in funding for the Phase 3 of the First Coast Expressway project through the Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) Work Program. This investment includes funding for the replacement of the Shands Bridge and extension of the First Coast Expressway to I-95 in St. Johns County and is the final phase of the $1.9 billion project.

First Coast Expressway-Connecting Our Community

By the end of 2017, the Florida Department of Transportation will finish buying the right of way needed to begin construction on the second segment of the $2.4 billion roadway that will, when completed, connect Interstate 10 in Duval County to Interstate 95 in St. Johns County. The majority of the 46-mile roadway will run through Clay County, the largest county in Florida without an interstate.
