MIDDLEBURG – Ascension St. Vincent’s has completed a second expansion of its hospital in Clay County.
The expansion of Ascension St. Vincent’s Clay County includes 16 additional intensive care beds and 12 progressive care beds. A progressive care unit is typically used for hospitalized patients who need more advanced care than a standard medical/surgical unit but do not require intensive care. The project also created approximately 50 jobs.
“The fact that this is our second expansion demonstrates our commitment to growing within Clay County and providing an even greater level of compassionate, personalized care,” said Ascension St. Vincent’s Clay County President James Machado. “It’s also a testament to the rapid growth of the community itself and our desire to be there for our neighbors in the most convenient, comprehensive ways possible.”
The expansion also includes an additional heart catheterization lab, which further expands the facility’s heart care capabilities.
“Ascension St. Vincent’s is a leader in heart care across Northeast Florida,” said Dr. Omer Zuberi, interventional cardiologist at Ascension St. Vincent’s Clay County. “Whether people have the opportunity to select us to help them manage more chronic heart and vascular conditions or if it is a more emergent need, we’re going to continue to add options for our patients so that they can get the care they need close to home.”
Ascension St. Vincent’s Clay County opened in 2013. The first expansion project which doubled the hospital’s size was completed in 2016 and this most recent expansion project began in the summer of 2018.
