January 21, 2020 AT&T Invests more than $3.2 Billion to boost service in Florida
TAMPA, FL — AT&T is ringing in the new year with the completion of more than 2,500 upgrades to its Florida wireless network. The network enhancements are intended to boost reliability and overall network performance for customers in the Sunshine State.
The 2019 upgrades include:
- More than 2,100 capacity adds to cell sites to accommodate more network traffic
- 600+ in Miami (Miami-Dade, Broward, Monroe counties)
- 200+ in West Palm Beach (Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Okeechobee Indian River counties)
- 100+ in Fort Myers-Naples (Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Glades, Hendry, Lee counties)
- Nearly 400 in Tampa-St. Petersburg (Citrus, Hardee, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Sarasota counties)
- 400+ in Orlando (Brevard, Flagler, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Sumter, Volusia counties)
- Nearly 200 in Jacksonville (Baker, Bradford, Clay, Columbia, Duval, Nassau, Putnam, St. Johns, Union counties)
- Nearly 100 in Gainesville (Alachua, Dixie, Gilchrist, Levy counties)
- About 100 in Tallahassee (Gadsen, Hamilton, Jefferson, Lafayette, Leon, Madison, Suwannee, Taylor, Wakulla counties)
- Nearly 100 in Panama City (Bay, Calhoun, Franklin, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, Liberty, Walton, Washington counties
- More than 65 new cell sites
- 3 in the Miami market in Weston, Cutler Ridge and Florida City
- 1 in the West Palm Beach area in Pahokee
- 4 in the Fort Myers-Naples market in Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Moore Haven and Naples
- 17 in the Tampa-St. Petersburg market in Clearwater, Davenport, Dover, Gibsonton, Holiday, Lakeland, Land O Lakes, Lithia, Lutz, Palm Harbor, Polk City, Port Richey, St. Petersburg and Zephyrhills
- 22 in the Orlando market in Bunnell, Christmas, Deltona, Dunnellon, Kissimmee, Lake Nona, Longwood, Melbourne, Ocala, Orlando, Oviedo, Palm Coast, Sorrento, Tavares, and The Villages
- 12 in the Jacksonville market in Hawthorne, Interlachen, Jacksonville, Lake City, Orange Park, Palatka, St. Augustine, San Mateo, and Starke
- 4 in the Gainesville market in Old Town and Bell
- 2 in the Tallahassee market in Live Oak
- 2 in the Panama City market in Malone and St. Joe
- More than 35 Distributed Antenna System projects to boost indoor and outdoor coverage at key venues statewide, including airports, hotels, universities and sporting venues.
- Deployment of small cells to densify our network and provide additional coverage
The Florida upgrades will also benefit public safety and first responders on FirstNet – public safety’s dedicated communications platform. FirstNet is providing a much-needed technology upgrade for first responders’ communications to help those users stay safe and save lives.

In Florida, AT&T has the Fastest Wireless Network in Miami, Tampa, Panama City and Tallahassee, according to results from Speedtest by Ookla.
AT&T invested more than $3.2 billion in its Florida wireless and wired networks during 2016-2018 to boost service.
